Save Our Swings
Have you ever called City Hall with a problem?
How long did it take to get fixed?
Days? Weeks? Months?
Still waiting?
Well, apparently, there is a way to get immediate action from the City of Calgary...
Just make sure that the thing you're complaining about is a swing hanging from a tree!

Sound crazy?
Well, one Calgary family found out that City Hall has some seriously misplaced priorities.
They had a tree swing on their front lawn for five years.
Sure, it was technically on a City-owned tree.
Sure, it's technically not allowed.
But for five years, nobody cared - until someone complained and the City decided this was an emergency worth solving.
Within 24 hours, bylaw enforcement was at their door with a removal notice.
And they were back again the very next day, when the swing hadn't been taken down yet!
That’s right - in a city where you can’t get a pothole filled, graffiti removed, or a response to open drug use in your alley - the City swung into action...
Immediately!
Twice!
Over a swing!
We’re not saying bylaws don’t matter.
But we are saying priorities do.
And when enforcement officers are being dispatched to deal with a swing, while real safety issues go unanswered - something is seriously out of balance.
City Hall says they want vibrant communities, active families, and safe streets.
But when they spend time policing tree swings instead of responding to actual concerns from residents, you have to wonder what their real priorities are.
Because if the City can act this fast to remove a kid’s swing, why can’t they clear up actual safety hazards just as quickly?
It’s time for a little common sense.
Swings are not the problem.
