I absolutely agree that the City Manager should be fired for the gross negligence on the issue of water utility operations. I would also note that the recent Kiefer report stated that the lines of responsibility in the City bureaucracy were so diffuse that no one person could be held accountable for almost any particular malfeasance. The current City Manager was (I understand) very involved in developing that bureaucratic structure and that is a further reason that he should be discharged. Put differently, if you cannot hold someone responsible for good or bad things there is no accountability and that is unacceptable. As one final point, the City Manager should be discharged for cause, i.e. with no severance.

We are a big city now and things need to change. And we need to catch up before we really crumble

Yes, city manager is responsible. If nothing happens, problems will keep occurring.

They have a saying in Jamaica when it comes to politics… “We must clean the stream from the top down”! Perhaps the civic election in October can signal the change that we need but it must go further ie.: civic, provincial and federal and globally!!

I pray that Jeremy Farkas makes the most of his opportunity to do the right thing but my Spidey Senses also realize that he may too have some culpability in what went on prior. It simply goes without saying we can no longer tolerate Egoist Politicians and Administrators to deflect from what they were elected and hired to do and that is to serve the people ( their ACTUAL bosses) as they so often promise and then ultimately disappoint! Enough is Enough!!

There is no way that he did not know about the seriousness of this issue. Though it sounds like some minimal plans were made, they clearly never got past the “what if” stage. It was a know issue before he was hired. It was a known issue when he was hired. Yet he chose to do what this city is very well known for, which is the reactive approach. The wait until the bad thing happens before we finally try to do something about it approach. Water is an extremely essential service, and it was ignored until it was too late. Now we’re stuck with potential water restriction disruptions for the next 2 years instead of already having a parallel pipe installed ready to take over. Because with the known issue and the population growth, this was inevitable. Everything essential in this city is always an afterthought after it becomes a problem.
