Campaign Roundup - Day 25:

  • The team at Common Sense Calgary has released our 2025 Municipal Election Survey, revealing where Mayoral and Council candidates stand on key issues like safety, affordability, taxation, and accountability. We have published their unedited responses so voters can make informed choices. Some candidates answered, others declined - but all responses, or lack thereof, offer insight into their priorities. We’ll be updating the website as candidates respond, so check back often!

  • Five leading Calgary mayoral candidates - Jeff Davison, Jeromy Farkas, Jyoti Gondek, Sonya Sharp, and Brian Thiessen - will face off in a live debate tonight, just days before voting. Moderated by Loren McGinnis of Calgary Eyeopener, the debate begins at 7:00 pm and will be streamed on CBC News Alberta’s YouTube channel, CBC Calgary’s website, and broadcast on CBC Radio 99.1 FM.

  • Residents at the Manor Village at Garrison Woods in Calgary are left without an on-site polling station, breaking a long-standing tradition that made voting accessible for seniors. Staff tried to arrange mail-in ballots, but a postal strike prevented timely delivery, and many residents face mobility challenges that make travelling to external polling stations difficult. A petition launched by a resident has gained support from dozens of seniors calling for easier access to voting. Elections Calgary said it based its polling station list on a provincial directory that excludes some private facilities like Manor Village.

  • With election day just days away, voter interest appears low - advance turnout dropped to about 96,500 compared to over 141,000 in 2021, and more than a third of voters remain undecided. Pollster Janet Brown says voters are fatigued and distracted by broader political issues. Jyoti Gondek blamed provincial controversies and the ongoing teacher strike for dampening engagement, while Jeromy Farkas urged Calgarians to get involved and vote.
