Campaign Roundup - Day 21:

  • Advance voting is now over. The next opportunity for voting is on Election Day - Monday, October 20th. Polls will be open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. You can find locations - as well as voter information - on the City’s website.

  • More than 95,000 Calgarians voted in advance polls, representing 10.7% of eligible voters. The six-day voting period from October 6th to 11th saw turnout rise steadily, peaking with over 22,000 voters on Saturday. The total of 96,549 advance ballots surpasses figures from 2013 and 2017 but remains below the 2021 total of 141,329.

  • This year’s municipal election falls on the same day as Diwali, raising concerns that the overlap could reduce voter turnout in wards with large South Asian populations. Some candidates worry residents will have to choose between voting and celebrating, while others believe the festivities could encourage participation. Elections Calgary noted the date is set by provincial law and cannot be changed but expanded advance voting opportunities across 41 stations and the Vote Bus to accommodate voters.

  • Columnist Licia Corbella has endorsed Sonya Sharp for Mayor, praising her track record of cutting red tape, helping local businesses, and standing up against policies like blanket rezoning that ignored public input. Meanwhile, Jeromy Farkas is framing himself as the only candidate who can defeat incumbent Jyoti Gondek, but Sharp and Jeff Davison are focusing on positioning themselves as the candidates who can actually beat both Farkas and Gondek.
