Campaign Roundup - Day 20:
- Today is the last day for advance voting. Polls are open until 7:00 pm. To find a location, click here.
- Speaking of advance voting, turnout has been significantly lower than in 2021. On day five, 17,704 ballots were cast, contributing to about 8% of total voter participation so far. While this is higher than early turnout in 2017, it remains below the comparable period in 2021, when over 104,000 voters participated in the first five days.
- A recent poll shows that infrastructure, affordability, and public safety are top priorities for Calgarians. Pollster Janet Brown found strong support for maintaining water and road infrastructure, managing public safety downtown, and keeping residential property taxes low. The poll indicates 34% of voters remain undecided, reflecting uncertainty about candidates’ platforms.
- Jeff Davison announced that, as Calgary mayor, he would end the City’s $87 billion climate emergency and refocus on practical, local priorities like repairing roads, maintaining parks, and clearing pathways. He pledged to stop forcing parents to fundraise for playgrounds, ensure community consent for park projects, cut bureaucratic red tape, and empower residents to have a stronger say in neighbourhood decisions.
