Campaign Roundup - Day 18:

  • If you want to cast a ballot during advance voting, you can do so until October 11th. Polls are open from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at 42 locations across the city. To find one, click here.

  • A Mayoral debate hosted by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce showcased the five leading candidates: Sonya Sharp, Jyoti Gondek, Jeff Davison, Brian Thiessen, and Jeromy Farkas. The debate, held at the Werklund Centre, was organized by the Calgary Downtown Association, Calgary Construction Association, Creative Calgary, and the Chamber, and moderated by chamber president and CEO Deborah Yedlin. You can watch the debate online here.

  • The Calgary Herald has compiled information from Councillor and Mayoral candidates about their key campaign issues, specifically about their stance on repealing blanket rezoning, plans to manage Calgary’s expected population growth, and the main focus of their campaigns. You can read all of the information online here.

  • Columnist Chris Nelson warned that Calgary’s 2025 municipal election is on track for historically low voter turnout, which could result in a Mayor being elected with as few as 70,000 votes in a city of 1.5 million. He argues that such a weak mandate would undermine strong leadership and exacerbate partisanship at City Hall. Contributing factors include indecision among voters, a postal strike limiting campaign outreach, a teachers’ strike occupying parents’ attention, and the Diwali festival coinciding with election day.
