Campaign Roundup - Day 13:

  • Advance voting begins on Monday! Voting runs from October 6th to October 11th and polls are open from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Polling locations and voter information are available online.

  • The Calgary Herald has offered the frontrunner Mayoral candidates column space to summarize why they are the best candidate. Brian Thiessen says Calgary has been let down by weak leadership at City Hall and Premier Danielle Smith’s interference in City affairs. He criticizes stalled projects, rising safety concerns, and the loss of tax dollars to the Province, arguing his opponents have had their chance and failed. Thiessen promises a “city that works,” with reliable transit, affordable housing, safer streets, and stronger local autonomy.

  • A new ThinkHQ poll showing Jeromy Farkas in the lead, followed by Sonya Sharp and Jyoti Gondek, has sparked controversy after it was revealed that ThinkHQ president Marc Henry is volunteering for the Communities First party and has donated the maximum allowed to Sharp’s campaign. Rivals Jeff Davison and Brian Thiessen criticized the poll as misleading and a conflict of interest, while Gondek downplayed its significance, saying Calgarians are more focused on issues like the teachers strike.

  • Global Calgary and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce will host a mayoral debate on October 8th at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, moderated by Chamber president Deborah Yedlin. The debate, featuring candidates Sonya Sharp, Jyoti Gondek, Jeff Davison, Brian Thiessen, and Jeromy Farkas, will run from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, with the first 30 minutes broadcast on Global Calgary and the full event livestreamed online and via apps.
