I despair of how my city questions its sense of history and place out of existence.

I agree calgarians were never consulted. If I knew the history of the name change eg consultation with treaty 7 First Nations I would be behind name change. There needs to be open communication- this is not the spirit of Calgary I know and love

The city had no business changing the name of Fort Calgary. This never should have been a discussion. This is a direct link to what has made our name sake. Changing the history of the city via name to placate individuals of present day, dishonors the history in all its forms and facts, like it or not. One doesn’t change history because it upsets sectors that find it offensive in present day. It’s like telling people that Fort Calgary didn’t exist and the history that has shaped the city should be changed to suit present day ideals when in fact, the history deserves to be respected. It is a fact and nothing anyone does or says will change events that have already occurred.

Instead, why didn’t the city just put a small plaque with a blurb about how things were back then do not represent present day beliefs while maintaining the name. It acknowledges past and present equally. That’s what other museums do.

Changing the name is ignorant and a show of blatant disrespect for the history of our city and province. Fort Calgary must be reinstated without delay.

Question, how do they have the legal right to change the name?
