Since when is it a bad thing to hold a plebiscite? How does council think it got elected?

We need more enforcement on the current speed limits, distracted driving and dangerous following distances (tailgating). Lowering the speed limits doesn’t all of a sudden make people follow them. Referndum needed.

Why are we thinking of reducing speed limits? Do you have statistics on the need for change or is this just “virtual signalling” by a Council heading to an election in October?

If they lowered it to 5kmh then the streets would be even safer with there reasoning.city hall makes bad decisions.I.e. Olympic bid that cost us millions for nothing.

Let’s just put this non issue on hold for now and if necessary make it a referendum issue. Since the speed limits we have now are rarely enforced, creating new ones is redundant to say the least. Let’s get the police to do their job and actually make traffic stops instead of hiding behind bushes with cameras. I could give out multiple tickets for major infractions every time I am on the road anywhere in Calgary. I seldom see an actual traffic stop. Why? Does our police chief not understand the dangers of excessive speeding, stunting and running traffic lights? Before we go off the deep end on things that will not be enforced anyway, let’s enforce the laws we currently have. It’s called basic policing.
